Hyundai Veloster 2019 | Car Review

By DonaMaria Sfeila

In a world full of regular cars, the uncanny Hyundai Veloster stands out. When I first saw it, I thought that it looked quite odd because of its unusual shape: no doubt in my mind, nothing else looks like it. When I got a closer look, I realized it’s a mix between a sporty coupe and a family friendly compact car, and that’s exactly what made me want to get into the driver’s seat to see what was going on inside. So buckle your seatbelts, you ain’t ready for this.

The Veloster model I laid my eyes on is distinguished by a pearl white color boasting a 2L 4 cylinder engine mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission. In reality, this one of a kind vehicle caught my attention pretty quickly because unlike coupes, it has a 3 door layout, which means you get the fancy attire without going through any trouble to get your buddies to ride with you.

Now, this car may look small on the outside, but trust me, it’s plenty roomy.  As soon as I opened the door I immediately noticed a silky smooth black leather interior with slim red lines here and there and cool checker details on the dashboard, it actually kind of made me feel like I was in for a go karting session. The seats are super comfortable and truly surprised me with their electric adjustment feature. Then I got to all the buttons and I instantly felt the urge to press each one to see what other cool things this car does.

Speaking of cool things, before I actually opened the door, my keys were stuck somewhere in my purse, and as I was reaching for them, the car detected their signal and unlocked itself on its own, how convenient! When I got in, as soon as I put down my phone, the car started  automatically charging it for me thanks to an amazing wireless charging feature. Oh, and did I happen to mention I turned it on thanks to a push button start engine, like seriously who even needs keys these days? With one click this baby is ready to take you anywhere.

If you thought that was it you’re wrong, no detail was spared: before heading out I wanted to listen to some music for my trip and just like that my phone was hooked up to the touch screen, which is compatible by the way with both apple and android, and I really enjoyed browsing through all the different apps and settings. After all that excitement, I had to back out of my parking spot, which is the hard part for me, but the moment I placed the gear shift into reverse, the road appeared on my screen, showing me my limitations right through the lens of the camera, I was so relieved!

While on the road I noticed a setting called heads-up display, what is that you might ask… drum roll please, this tiny transparent screen suddenly popped up from the back of the wheel to tell me what speed I was at and in which direction I was going, I mean if that isn’t impressing I don’t know what to tell you! Moving on, I went to pick up a friend and we had to go through a tunnel to reach our destination. I was trying to get to the lights rapidly before we went in, but out of nowhere, the car detected a dimly lit space and the lights turned on on their own, I literally did nothing.

You legit don’t have to think about anything, this car is fully automated with many built in sensors ensuring its reliability and total safety. Frankly, not many cars have this kind of new technology so that’s a win for your money. You can basically consider this city ride as the car of tomorrow: it’s less expensive and still quick and entertaining to drive.

Lastly, the Veloster clearly does the job and is a good option for first time buyers who want to impress their friends with a dependable car. The Korean model has an aggressive yet funky look, it doubles as a fun sports ride and an everyday functional vehicle, making the investment in it a good compromise for fans of hot looks who still want a car that fits into their daily routine. It’s only waiting for a driver to welcome it into their life!
