Choosing the Best Air Conditioning System for Your House!

Choosing the Best Air Conditioning System for Your House!

By DonaMaria Sfeila

Are you melting from the heat? Us too!

Can’t stand to be sweaty? Same here!

Why are we asking? Because we have the solution!

By solution we mean Air Conditioners, we’ve got all kinds of different ones available on our app OLX Lebanon as well as our website!

Now you could decide to move to the North Pole and live in an igloo for the rest of the summer but hear us out: today in Lebanon, the situation is not ideal, with ongoing heatwaves and the summer season right on our doorstep, our best bet is  AC and cooling systems to keep us as cool as cucumbers!

And, we have just the tips and tricks for you to benefit from your AC as much as you can and whenever possible.

Tip #1

Buying a larger air conditioner for your home may not necessarily make your home cooler during the hot summer months. If an air conditioner is too large it won’t cool the house properly either. As odd as that may sound, it’s important to purchase an air conditioner that is the right size for your home. Too large, and the home may feel damp and clammy, too small and it may be hot and sticky. It’s a delicate balance to find the exact right size for your home.

Here’s  a chart to give you an idea of what’s best for your home:

Tip #2

If you think your air conditioner isn’t running properly, most times it won’t need to be repaired. It might actually only need to be cleaned! If your vents are kept clear, they will allow more productive airflow. You can run a vacuum over the vent to remove buildup and prevent any obstructions. To keep your unit running efficiently, wash your air filters with soapy water at least once a month or replace them if they become too dirty, clogged, or worn out.

Tip #3

Don’t forget to keep the blinds closed, it’s a simple way to keep your AC running efficiently especially in the midday heat. This will also help in naturally cooling down the interior. You should also make sure that all doors and windows are shut or sealed to optimize the cool temperature.

Tip #4

Trying to keep your energy bill low is not as hard as you might think. Make sure to always keep lamps and heat-producing appliances away from the thermostat because the excess heat sends a signal to the thermostat indicating that the interior temperature is hotter than it actually is, leading to AC running overtime (if set on auto mode).

Tip #5

As Lebanese, we know better than anyone that using two appliances at once is a recipe for disaster in regards to power cuts and electricity bills. It is not recommended to use the dryer and the oven while the weather is very hot outside because they will both pull hot air into the house and make it unbearable. If your AC turns on automatically, this will only add stress to it and increase your energy consumption therefore increasing your bills. (and nobody wants that!)

Tip #6

If you really want to lower your energy bill, consider installing a programmable or smart thermostat. The use of a programmable thermostat can reduce your monthly energy consumption by 5 – 30%. Set the thermostat higher during the hours of the day when nobody’s around and then lower it for comfort when everybody’s back at home. Most smart thermostats have Wi-Fi capabilities that allow you to remotely adjust the temperature.

We think these hacks are pretty useful, and now let’s get down to business!
